The Vols have been trying to get some young talent to come back and play football, but there are some issues they need to address before they can have success.
The Vol team announced on Monday that they had signed linebacker Jordan Johnson and defensive tackle Jordan Smith to new contracts.
Johnson will be the team’s fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Smith will be a free agent in 2019 and will make $3 million.
Johnson has been on the practice squad, but the Vols plan to keep him around until he is ready to compete in the NFL.
Johnson was the teams fourth-leading tackler in 2018 and led the team with 7.5 sacks.
He also had 18 tackles for loss and 10.5 tackles for a loss during his junior season at South Carolina.
