How recruiting drove Osrs to Ospreys

The Osprey have been one of the most exciting clubs to watch in recent years.

But how did the recruitment drive to lure the highly-rated Ospreans star recruiter and his highly-motivated young men to the Ospres?

A new book, Osrs: A Story of Talent, by Steve Johnson, paints a fascinating picture of how the OSpreys recruited one of England’s best young talent, Tom Cole, to play for them in 2019.

It is a story of a young man who was desperate to prove himself and he became a household name in England.

He has become a global star and is an instant legend in his own right.

The Ospreeans were keen on bringing Cole to their grounds for a trial and, having secured his commitment, Oshers head coach Steve Johnson said: “I have never been more proud of this young man, and it was a decision that I could not have made without him.”

He added: “The experience he has gained and the respect he has been given has been invaluable.

He is a great example to others that young people should be able to do anything and that everything can be achieved.”

Cole, who played in England’s Under-21 squad, was one of three players to be included in the 2018 World Cup squad.

He was also a key player for the OSPreys last season and made a successful return to the top flight last term.

He made the cut for the Six Nations, where he scored six tries in a tournament where he was named Player of the Tournament.

Ospreys coach and former England international Gareth Evans said the experience Cole has gained will be invaluable to him as he takes over from the retiring Dan Robson as the head coach.

“Tom Cole was a brilliant talent,” Evans said.

“He’s grown as a player, as a person, and I know what it takes to be a successful professional.”

He’s been a massive influence in Tom’s development, and Tom has been a tremendous servant to the squad over the past three seasons.

“The fact that he is still so young and still has such a bright future shows how much he still has in him.”

Cole is also a keen amateur rugby player, having played two years in the NRL, and he has a number of other rugby commitments to consider.

The OSpreans have already signed Osperson academy graduate Ben Davies and former Ospreen Kieran Murray, while England Under-20 international Luke Charteris is another player who has been linked with the Oscars.

But Cole is not the only player who is linked to the club.

A number of the OScars stars are also linked with joining the OSC, including England centre Jamie George and England wing James Haskell.

Cole was an England Under 21 international last season, scoring seven tries in 14 appearances.

He was named as the 2017 OSC Young Player of The Year and has been named a member of the England Under 18s All-England Club since his debut.
